Dom Scott: Cape Town's Pro Runner

The Razorback is in Town

Cape Town's newest professional athlete is in town.

Dominique Scott is currently visiting her family for a few weeks and enjoying the good weather. Based in the USA, Scott completed her studies and NCAA-scholarship at the University of Arkansas in 2016, which also saw her represent SA at the Rio Olympics. Constantia's own "Razorback" fared well in the 10,000m, her 31:51.47 being a personal best time. I wonder how many athletes have actually managed that, rising to the occasion in their maiden Olympics, straight outta college? Not too many I suspect but then Scott was always going to succeed.

A product of an athletic (and Park Run-organising) family and great coaching, Scott enters 2017 as a professional runner. That's right, she gets paid to run, and run fast. Elite athlete sponsorship might include free shoes and kit (and a salary for the fortunate few), but it also comes with expectation. But you've got to love the sport and "Dom" sure does, and with a long term view.

Scott currently clocking up the kilometers (excuse me, miles) in around the Southern Suburbs, preparing for the upcoming indoor track season. Hard yards, yes, mostly twice daily but always in the company Dad, Mom or sister on a bicycle. It hasn't come easy but then "it" generally doesn't.  Yes, Tokyo is four years away but it is just around the corner.

Go Tokyo? Go fast!
