Below is from an email sent to me from friend and fellow ex-triathlete from the 1990s Barry Van Jaarsveld. For more about Barry, check this article I wrote with him last year:
Dear Friends
The first UN official get together of the ex Longmile Triathlon Team was held on July 28, 29, 30th and 31st of July 2011 in the Alps.
Two guys pitched up.
Bryan Mellville and myself. We had some contact with Nic to inform him that we were in France. Bryan was bragging about his cycling form but he was not as good as he had hoped. Lets say the Alps sort the men from the boys
What we did:
Day one: Col de Ornon and Les deus Alps
Day two: Col de Croix de Fer, De Telegraph and Calibier
Day three: Rest Day
Day four: Alp 'd Huez Time Trial, winning time, 1:03
Lots of guys were interested though in 2011.
No worries as our plans kind of fell apart when we had to finalise hotel bookings, There were a bunch of interested guys, but family, money and work of course makes it difficult to make it to France.
Bryan and I figured we should give it another bash.
Easy for us to talk as we fly in from Holland and UK.
Lets do it next year 2012, July end or beginning august.
Let me know if you are interested.
Barry.
