"This was my very first road race. Talk about being tossed in at the deep end. Charlie thought it would be good preparation for the Epic, just two weeks later. I never knew what to expect. I stood on the start line expecting a leisurely stroll in the bunch, but the days were hard and the gutter riding was something very new to me. But I survived and it turned out as great Epic preparation. I loved the race, although I can't say I'll be going back for more of that."
