Trans Karoo 2012 - a photo essay

Pre-race packing: Craig sorting out his nutrition while John is looking forward to his Spur burger.

"Luister seuns. We ride to win."

The Four Seasons Guesthouse in Ceres. Lush and comfortable.

Sharing our accommodation with the owner of this Corsa bakkie; the legendary Hannele Steyn.

Approaching the reception across the road for more tea bags.

Ceres has its own river park.

Checkpoint 1. The waiting begins as the temperature drops.

The road begins to fill up while I listen to the "Best of Aerosmith."

PharmaChoice is everywhere.

I mean everywhere.

The lead group passes through CP1, with our buddy Warren obscured by the fellow in the white jersey.

Danny Schmeisser, aka "die Man van Staal" passes through.

As does Raynard Tissink, fresh off the Ironman the previous weekend, the Cape Epic before that, the Africa-X 3 day Trail Race before that, the ITU Africa Sprint Champs before that...you get the picture.

Theam PharmaChoice at CP 1.

Shaun getting his bottles.

Ben cleaning his beloved Niner.

"Ouens! Ons moet wikkel!"

View from our window in Sutherland, after fetching the keys from the slaaghuis.

My palatial loft.

The common accommodation downstairs for the cyclists.

Our accommodation from the outside: "Your cottage is the grey building with the red door. You can't miss it."

Our neighbouring wendy house.

Our gate.

The road back from CP3.

The pass into Sutherland.

Craig stumbles around after the race and collapses on his bed.

Ben wants coffee. Not instant coffee.

John wants to shower.
