South Africans on the Road
South African athletes are doing good worldwide, especially some Capetonians.
Wikipedia describes Carlsbad as "an affluent seaside resort city occupying a 7-mile stretch of Pacific coastline in northern San Diego County, California." Fair play and I'm sure it is but is also host to a "fast stop" on the US Pro Running circuit.
This past weekend didn't disappoint, what with Dejen Gebremeskel's 13:27 seaside jog and Violah Lagat's 15:35 dispatch of "The world’s fastest 5000m road race."
Also in the field (and photo) was Dominique Scott-Efurd, South African Olympian and first year professional runner. Look closely at the finish photo and you can see the distinctive form of Cape Town's own sprinting for a superb fourth place only seconds back. Yes, all that December training is paying off.
First pro season looking good! Good stuff!
